XIII Edition 2023 — Babel

Video Sound Art presents the XIII edition of the Festival, titled Babel, with an exhibition project spread across two cities in Lombardy — Brescia and Milan.

This edition of the Festival is devoted to the theme of language and its ambiguous nature: a screening programme, installations and performances make up a schedule built in collaboration with international institutions. From the Dutch publishing group MacGuffin’s investigations into the letters of the world’s alphabets, to research on identity expressed through the language of video carried out at CNAP — Centre national des arts plastiques in Paris.

In Brescia the festival occupied three venues: MO.CA — Centre for New Cultures, in the historic baroque Palazzo Martinengo Colleoni di Malpaga; the Bunkervik, a former air-raid shelter from the 1940s; and the Nuovo Eden cinema. The Milan chapter continued in dialogue with the Historical Archive of the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico: beneath a lunette vault, a constellation of micro-histories representing the ideal bricks of that tragically impossible project, the building of the Tower of Babel.
