Lose Voice Toolkit

Lose Voice Toolkit is a body of research investigating the languages of childhood, the power of silence and other forms of non-verbal communication used as gestures of refusal and as ways of building spaces of autonomy from the communicative codes of the adult world.
In an indefinable place and time – an ancestral, universal house – a group of children seem to have stopped using words. The words may have been drawn away by powerful tongue-stealing magnets or melted by sweet voice-losing candies. Either way, the words have disappeared. The children begin to transform and to develop a new language made of airy forms, sharp glances, shared thoughts. One might think they speak with their noses, their elbows, their pupils.
The film is the result of a year of collective research and of a workshop with the twenty-three children of Farfallopoli (1B IC Gino Strada, Turin); the content, the script and the costumes are the outcome of this collective process. The work was produced as part of the Cripta747 Residency and Research Grant.
