Ricordi per moderni

In Ricordi per moderni, Ancarani’s research and video work are permeated by fantastical and surreal atmospheres in which industrial areas along the Romagna coast coexist with domestic interiors and landscapes that bear witness to hidden aspects of everyday life. The documentary-style approach immerses the viewer in atmospheres rich with dreamlike and narrative suggestions, offering a journey that takes us on an exploratory path toward an unknown and ambiguous human and geographical landscape. Yuri Ancarani manages, while remaining within it, to break free from this landscape, revealing precisely what we cannot see but know full well exists; he eliminates all modesty from his vision and draws on Tondelli’s style to interpret and depict in images complex subjects such as the geographical and cultural landscapes beyond the clichés of the Riviera, bringing industrial and marshland vistas to the forefront, imbuing them with a magical atmosphere, and paying homage to the lakeside solitude of those in search of thrilling adventures. This perspective owes much to the “musical” pages that Pier Vittorio Tondelli dedicated to the Riviera, and it is precisely from these pages that we can seek out that sense of desperate, languid longing that settles upon people and things.
