Video Sound Art Festival is Milan’s contemporary art festival.
Since 2011, the editions have been held in venues inhabited by the community, which are not part of the ordinary artistic circuits: public schools (Biennale Manifesta, PA, Liceo Volta, MI), basements (Ex Albergo Diurno Venezia, MI – Ali Kazma), theatres (Teatro Franco Parenti | Bagni Misteriosi, MI – Yuri Ancarani, Teatro Carcano, MI – Mika Rottenberg, Daniel De Paula etc.), sports venues (Piscina Romano, MI – Enrique Ramirez and Piscina Cozzi, MI – Giulio Frigo) and scientific venues (Museo Civico Storia Storia Civico, MI – Enrique Ramirez and Daniel De Paula, MI – Giulio Frigo). ), sports facilities (Piscina Romano, MI – Enrique Ramirez and Piscina Cozzi, MI – Giulio Frigo) and scientific venues (Museo Civico di Storia Naturale, MI – Haig Aivazian and Planetario Ulrico Hoepli, MI).
The projects are preceded by a study of the social and historical characteristics of the locations to create a connection between the works and the location’s spaces. The festival offers a multidisciplinary dialogue between installation projects, performances, concerts, screening programmes, editorial projects and public programmes. The encounter between the festival staff, artists, curators and guest venues involves constant dialogue. Curating is no longer just about taking care of artistic objects. It is about embracing different visions of the world by rewriting and sharing the concept of authorship.
