Julia Holter
Los Angeles, United States
Julia Holter, born in 1984, is a singer-songwriter and composer from Los Angeles. After graduating from the California Institute of the Arts she recorded her first concept album, Tragedy, in 2011, inspired by Euripides’ Hippolytus, working with dreamlike, esoteric avant-pop sounds. In 2012, amid growing critical attention, she released Ekstasis, which explores the atmospheres of her first record further. In 2013 came Loud City Song, the album that introduced her to a wider audience: recorded with an ensemble, it leaves the atmospheres of her early work in the background in favour of a more pop sound.
At Video Sound Art she played on July 9th 2014 at the Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologia in Milan.
