I Can Only Dance to One Song

Fayez films a series of figures from Barcelona’s immigrant communities as they listen and dance to a track of their own choosing, exploring the role of music in producing a sense of belonging and nostalgia for a place. Originally conceived as a single-channel film, for the XIV edition of Video Sound Art Festival the work is presented – from an idea by Video Sound Art – as a 4-channel installation that scatters the polyphony of voices gathered by Fayez, introducing an unexpected dialogue with the counter of the Circolo San Luis.
