Adult Standard is the experimental music project of Vincenzo Risi, exploring new links between a certain kind of electronic post-rock and pop. At the core of the songs is the incremental loop: the chord progression stays the same while layers of instruments are added or taken away, and the vocal line traces a pop course that ignores the classic structures. Sometimes the voice enters a musical setting that is already complete, towards the end of the song; at other times the distinction between verse and chorus disappears. The aim is for the listener to perceive a complete development, minimal in the sense of not redundant, in which every element has a precise purpose. In bringing post-rock and pop together, Adult Standard’s genre could be called post-pop.
