Jon Hopkins

London, United Kingdom

Jon Hopkins is a British musician and composer. He started playing the piano at the age of five and at twelve joined the Royal College of Music in London. He made his debut in 2001 with the album Opalescent, followed by Contact Note in 2004 and The Fourth State in 2008, which includes a 32-minute ambient track. Insides came out on Domino Records in 2009.

Hopkins has worked with many artists, including Coldplay, Imogen Heap, King Creosote, Massive Attack, Chris Coco and Brian Eno, and has remixed Frou Frou, Clarksville and Keane under the pseudonym Mr Roque.

His track Light Through the Veins was used in 2008 as the introduction to Life in Technicolor, the opening track of Coldplay’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, an album Hopkins also co-produced, working in particular on the keyboard parts. In 2010 Vertigo Films hired him to score Monsters, Gareth Edwards’ low-budget science fiction film.
