Arash Fayez

Arash Fayez is an artist currently based in Barcelona. Fayez’s artistic practice investigates the condition of displacement in relation to desire, exploring concepts such as statelessness, limbo and in-betweenness. Through writing, performance and video, his projects explore the condition of a mind in limbo as the consequence of a body “in between” – in other words, the mental and physical states of those who find themselves in limbo because they are between two places, two cultures or two identities. His practice focuses on the segment that separates these two phenomena and directs the audience not towards one place or the other, but towards what can be found in between. These works derive mainly from autobiographical experiences interwoven with non-narrative content, in which the artist uses writing as his main method for giving shape to new ideas. Through narrative strategies, his writings are a mix of fiction and documentary aimed at building an emotional landscape that resonates with the sense of displacement.
