Camille Henrot

Taxis toutes distances

2009

Camille Henrot, Taxis toutes distances, 2009 — video, colour, sound

In Taxis toutes distances seven interviews follow one another with Paris taxi drivers who come from different parts of the world. Through a series of questions, Camille Henrot examines each driver’s relationship with their country of origin and with French culture. The taxi ride through the streets of the city becomes a visual metaphor for the journeys made by the interviewees, during which each person’s own path resurfaces. Each story offers a singular perspective on learning French and on passing the mother tongue on to children born far from the country of origin.
