Cyprien Gaillard

Cyprien Gaillard lives and works in Berlin. He studied at ECAL, École cantonale d’art de Lausanne, Switzerland. His practice revolves around sculpture, painting, printmaking, photography, video, performance and large-scale interventions in public space. Through these different media, Gaillard presents the decay of contemporary architecture as a modern ruin, like rubble returning to nature. He has won several prizes, including the Melbourne International Film Festival Award for Best Experimental Short Film, 2016, Melbourne (AU); the Arken Art Prize, 2016, Ishøj (DK); the A.T. Kearney Young Artist Award, 2012, Düsseldorf (DE); the National Gallery Prize for Young Art, 2011, Berlin (DE); and the Marcel Duchamp Prize, 2010, Paris (FR). He has also exhibited at major institutions such as the Palais de Tokyo, Paris (FR); Espace Louis Vuitton, Munich (DE); Mori Art Museum, Tokyo (JP); Sprüth Magers, Los Angeles (US); Museum Tinguely, Basel (CH); Gladstone Gallery, New York (US); Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (US); and the Centre Pompidou, Paris (FR).
