Lux et Lucus

Caterina Morigi arrived in Capodimonte to participate in the artist-in-residence program held at the Giovanni Caselli Institute—a specialized school for ceramics and porcelain—two days after a tornado struck Naples, causing severe damage. This small-scale photographic project shows the viewer the aftermath of the natural disaster, revealing the subtle traces of the site’s history and the dense atmosphere of the forest. The format is the same as that of 1920s thank-you postcards dedicated to cities and evokes an intimate dimension. The photographs—some taken through a mirror pointed upward—synthesize, through the filter of light, the relationship between the forest, the undergrowth, and the sky: the storm raging overhead, as in the imagery of the divine.
