IOIC – Institute of Incoherent Cinematography
Zurich, Switzerland
IOIC is a Zurich-based institute that promotes the art of silent film and its presentation through live music performance. Every year it organises a four-day film marathon built around a theme, with strictly live scores, and brings the best of each year’s work to other Swiss cities and abroad. Its performances involve musicians from the widest range of styles.
At Video Sound Art 2014 the live score was performed by:
Linda Vogel (1989), a classically trained harpist who also works with improvisation, lives and works in Zurich.
Diane Gemsch (Zurich, 1987) studied dance theatre and modern dance in the Netherlands and Belgium; she lives in Zurich and works with dance companies across Europe.
Simon Berz (Wettingen, 1967), drummer, improviser and sound researcher, founded the label Badabum, a platform for bringing different art forms together with a special focus on improvisation; he lives in Zurich.
Tom «Toktek» Verbruggen (1978), a fine arts graduate of AKV St. Joost, specialises in musical improvisation and self-built instruments; he lives and works in the Netherlands.
David «Dada» Daniel (1983) studied piano and cello at the conservatories of Zurich and Winterthur, later specialising in electronic music and visual installations; he lives and works in Zurich.
