NFT pH<7

NFT stands for Nutrient Film Technique, a hydroponic system that continuously irrigates the root zone of plants. A pH of 7 on the acidity scale corresponds to a neutral value, which is necessary for plant growth in hydroponic cultivation. The installation presents us with a domestic and artificial version of nature: the plants grow above ground, without sunlight or soil.
A lively, mechanical entity, NFT pH7 is a neutral medium: neither too basic nor too acidic, its pH ironically speaks to the theoretical balance of a purely artificial construct.

NFT pH7—a video, painting, and the construction of a greenhouse with an irrigation system—created for the spaces of the Institut français Milano, evokes the pictorial tradition of landscape painting through the reconstruction of a natural system that is ostensibly domestic. Running through the installation, a new video depicts the awakening of a nymph who moves through this same setting amid the crowd at an electronic music festival.<<
