Florence Lazar

Paris, France, 1966

Florence Lazar is a French photographer, filmmaker, and multidisciplinary artist. Florence Lazar’s work lies at the intersection of contemporary art and cinema. Her film practice draws inspiration from a documentary inquiry that delves into the recesses of official historiography in order to restore dignity to subjective narratives obliterated by “Grand History.” Her works were featured in a solo exhibition at the Jeu de Paume in 2019, as well as in numerous museums and art centers, including the BLMK in Cottbus, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Art Jameel in Dubai, and the Spore Initiative in Berlin. She has participated in major international events, including the 12th edition of Sonsbeek, the Printemps de Septembre in Toulouse (2021), the A Dobradiça Biennial in Portugal (2023), and the 61st Venice Biennale. Her films have been screened at major international festivals such as Cinéma du Réel in Paris, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), the Amazonie Caraïbes documentary festival in French Guiana, the Pravo Ljudski Film Festival in Sarajevo, the Sheffield Doc/Fest, and FIDMarseille.
