VII Edition 2017 — La grande occasione

The festival’s special edition was held in three of Milan’s most notable venues: the Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, a century-old foundry still working today with major Italian and international artists; the Bagni Misteriosi, the former Centro Balneare Caimi attached to the Teatro Franco Parenti; and the Institut français Milano.

La grande occasione is an explicit quotation of the 1973 film of the same name by the Italian artist Ugo La Pietra, a critique of the relationship between artists and institutions: today as in the Seventies, keeping one’s practice going over time is the result of stubborn determination, of sacrifice and hard work.

The edition explores the theme of dwelling, understood as giving a place its character and its identity, possessing it mentally as well as physically, taking up Ugo La Pietra’s provocation: «To dwell is to be everywhere at home».
