Silent films with live music
IOIC – Institute Of Incoherent Cinematography
IOIC is a Zurich-based institute that promotes the art of silent film and its representation through live musical performances. Every year it organises a four-day film marathon with strictly live soundtracks built around a central theme.
The institute also organises events and meetings in other cities in Switzerland and abroad presenting the best of its annual production. The musical performances feature artists from a wide range of musical styles.
LINDA VOGEL, born in 1989, works and lives in Zurich. She is a harpist with a classical background who also works on musical improvisation.
DIANE GEMSCH, born in Zurich in 1987, studied dance-theatre and modern dance in the Netherlands and Belgium. She currently lives in Zurich and works with dance companies all over Europe.
SIMON BERZ, born in Wettingen in 1967, lives in Zurich. He is a drummer, improviser, sound researcher and founder of the Badabum label, a platform for the integration of different artistic forms with a special focus on musical improvisation.
TOM “TOKTEK” VERBRUGGEN, born in 1978, works and lives in the Netherlands. He holds a degree in fine arts from the Akademie voor Kunst en Vormgevingn St. Joost. Alongside his artistic career, he specialises in musical improvisations and self-made musical instruments.
DAVID “DADA” DANIEL, born in 1983, lives and works in Zurich. He studied piano and cello at the Conservatories of Zurich and Winterthur. He later specialised in electronic music and visual installations.
