Apolis
“You are not illegal, but you are not legal either.” Out of this exchange between the artist and his immigration lawyer came Apolis, a visual autobiography of Fayez’s life in limbo between 2014 and 2018. The 312 pages include the artist’s immigration file in the United States, from his arrest to his voluntary departure from the country. Photographs of everyday life taken with a smartphone are laid over the sections of the file, concealing personal and sensitive information.
