Schneewittchen / Snow white

Desire, love, death: this is the triad around which *Schneewittchen / Snow White*—an unpublished film project by the German artist—unfolds, beginning with an observation of the efforts made by certain cultures to preserve the bodies of the deceased.
Building on this reflection, Thadeusz Tischbein weaves together references to history, literature, myth, and contemporary art in a complex video installation in which theatrical backdrops lose their original function, becoming the projection screen. They, too—like the now-lifeless bodies—are transformed into sculptures, an intangible skin and a metaphor for a desire that cannot be fulfilled. A fragile surface that reveals the futility of the erotic experience as a means of transcending mortality.
