CASA

Arabic has a myriad of words for home: bayt, dar, manzil, maskan. Subtle semantic shifts that evoke the many senses of dwelling, an everyday word that contains universes. Issue 4 of Arabpop (Tamu Edizioni), the twice-yearly cultural magazine founded in 2021 that focuses on the contemporary arts and literatures of the Arab countries, is titled CASA and is devoted entirely to this theme. Continuing Video Sound Art’s long-standing collaborations with independent publishers, a selection of textual and pictorial extracts from Arabpop issue 4 challenges the original format, becoming a site-specific installation inside the Circolo San Luis that recalls the atmosphere of a domestic space or a reading room.
The selected contributions include Sono qui, the editorial by Laila Sit Aboha, Il pollaio by Carol Sansour, La chiave by Ines Abassi and the photographic project The Diaspora Archive by Jasmine and Imad Barri.
