Hito Steyerl

Hito Steyerl currently lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Tokyo and at the University of Television and Film Munich, and holds a PhD in philosophy from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Steyerl has taught at several institutions, including KUVA in Helsinki, the Berlin University of the Arts, the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen and Goldsmiths College in London. She co-founded the Research Center for Proxy Politics, active from 2014 to 2017. Her awards include the B3 BEN honorary award, Frankfurt (DE), in the Art category in 2021, and the Käthe Kollwitz Prize of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin (DE), in 2019. In 2015 she received the EYE Art & Film Prize, a collaboration between EYE Film Institute Netherlands and the Paddy & Joan Leigh Fermor Arts Fund, and in 2010 the New:Vision Award, Copenhagen International Documentary Festival (DK).
