Alexandre Erre
Nouméa, New Caledonia, 1990
Alexandre Erre currently lives and works between France and Kanaky-New Caledonia, Erre’s home for 17 years. Erre studied at the École Supérieure d’Art et Design de Grenoble and then at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy. Through installation, sculpture, video, photography, interventions in public space and performance, the artist analyses and questions codes and norms in order to create memories, stories and fictions. Erre’s artistic approach revolves around a personal experience as a queer person from Melanesia and around the celebration of the cultures and communities of Oceania. More broadly, Alexandre Erre explores questions of memory, exoticisation and insularity.
