Iokoi

Switzerland / Italy

Iokoi, a Swiss and Italian artist, plays for theatre, dance, silent films and installations, for herself and for ordinary people. After a first tour of China she returned to Asia in spring 2013 to play at the first Art Basel Hong Kong. That August she created an interactive sound installation, with a concert, for the Stadtsommer summer festival at the Zurich botanical garden. In 2014 she composed the music for TSIB – The Space In Between, an experimental contemporary dance project with choreographers Alida Dors and Jochen Heckmann.

Her first single, Growing Young, became the soundtrack to a video by designer Yohji Yamamoto — part of a long-standing dialogue with the fashion world that also includes the emerging label Miryaki.

Her music could perhaps be placed somewhere between ambient, drone and pop, but that hardly matters: it floats through space, dressing itself in whatever surrounds it. Letting go is everything.
