Ila Bêka, Louise Lemoine
Artists and filmmakers working at the crossroads between the visual arts and documentary cinema. Their cinematic approach highlights the tensions between design and everyday life, revealing how people live, adapt, resist or reinterpret architectural intentions. Their work emphasises how architecture shapes behaviour, emotions and social dynamics, making it more tangible and human. Their films have been widely shown in solo and group exhibitions at major art and architecture museums, including the Fondation Beyeler (Basel), the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain (Paris), the Fondazione Prada (Milan), the MAXXI (Rome), the Venice Biennale (Venice) and the Barbican Art Gallery (London).
In 2016, MoMA – the Museum of Modern Art in New York – acquired the entire body of work by Bêka & Lemoine produced up to that date for its permanent collection. Their films are also held in other public and private art collections, including the MAXXI (Rome), the CNAP Centre National des Arts Plastiques (Paris), the Prada Foundation (Milan), the MAC/CCB Fundaçao Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon) and others.
