Ode de Kort
Malle, Belgium, 1992
Ode de Kort holds a degree in photography from the School of Arts in Ghent. Her practice is interdisciplinary, spanning performance, sculpture, installation and photography. Her artistic research takes the form of a poetic and performative exploration of the relationship between the body and language. At the heart of her work are signs that proliferate outside their conventional context – commas, brackets, apostrophes, letters – stripped of their grammatical function to be observed in their formal, plastic and choreographic dimensions. Through sculptures, performative alphabets and spatial installations, de Kort works with the material, typographical and poetic qualities of the sign, transforming it into a physical presence and gesture within space. She has presented solo exhibitions and projects at SpazioA, Pistoia (2024); CAB Contemporary, Brussels (2016); Extra City Kunsthal, Antwerp (2015, 2016, 2025); Hopstreet Gallery, Antwerp (2016); Tique Art Space, Antwerp (2015); the Latvian National Museum of Art, Riga (2020); and the Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Como (2014).
