The firefly keeps falling and the snake keeps growing

The firefly keeps falling and the snake keeps growing is the final chapter of the trilogy begun in 2019, The Animals. Once upon a time…in the present time. The video work, commissioned by Manifesta 14 Prishtina Biennale and produced by Fondazione In Between Art Film, with executive production by Video Sound Art, continues the exploration of the brutalist architecture of the Balkans with one of the most celebrated post-war examples, the Central Post Office in Skopje, North Macedonia. The reinforced concrete structure, shaped like a lotus flower and completed in 1974, became the symbol of the city’s reconstruction after the 1963 earthquake.
The film is inspired by the fable of the firefly and the snake, in which the snake, struck by the firefly’s brightness, tries at all costs to eat it, reacting to the sense of powerlessness that grips it in the face of its glow.
From a perspective of rebirth and reconstruction, Driant Zeneli makes the two robot animals the protagonists, this time built in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Skopje.
