The spirit of place, between art, architecture and identity
An exploration of Milan’s Zona 8 with two local schools: site visits, conversations with residents, historical and geographical research, the study of architectural form and of the soundscape.
Video Sound Art took part, together with other partners — the Municipality of Milan, the Metropolitan City of Milan, Associazione Culturale Ecate, SUPER — Scuola Superiore d’Arte Applicata and Uno-Zero — in the «Fermenti in Comune» call issued by ANCI. Starting from a reflection on educational poverty and early school leaving, the project Per-Corsi — Community digitali tra arte e cultura unfolds through free workshops and training courses for young people aged 16 to 35 living in Milan and the surrounding municipalities.
The education department carried out an exploration of Milan’s Zona 8 with two local schools. Together with a third-year class of the Artemisia Gentileschi tourism institute, the team supported the students in reflecting on the area where they live and go to school, examined through field trips, conversations with residents, historical and geographical research, and the study of architectural forms and of the soundscape. The result is a body of photographs, videos, audio interventions and new material made by the students and gathered into a single video.
