Places of collective worship, of cultivation (or collective labour) and of incarceration (or collective punishment). I could also put it another way\u2026 Places where people gather to be in direct contact with the sky, with the earth, and to dig and go underground. These are also the places where ethnographers tried to collect and preserve the musical traditions they considered endangered by the transformations brought by modernity.
